Aden Duale is the latest cabinet secretary to defy President William Ruto's order on campaign's for the upcoming by-elections. There is set to be a by-election in Wajir constituency where Duale served as an Mp before his appointment to the cabinet. There is also another by-election in Elgeyo Marakwet where Kipchumba Murkomen who was previously senator was nominated as CS for transport thus rendering the seat vacant.
William Ruto had said that they have no preference in the two seats and despite UDA having candidates in the two seats, no top UDA official has gone to campaign there. Also, CS's are not allowed to participate in campaigns, this is one of the issues that Ruto used to criticise of the former government where state official's were heavily involved in the election.
It would therefore be hypocritical for him to allow his CS's to participate in the same campaigns that he used to condemn. Duale has however chosen to defy this as he openly rooted for UDA candidate Dekow to succeed. UDM also has a candidate in the by-election, both parties are in Kenya Kwanza. Yesterday VS Kipchumba Murkomen was heckled in Elgeyo where he had also gone to campaign, contrary to Ruto's wishes.
