Former prime minister Raila Odinga has spoken against abuse of police powers. He said what was witnessed yesterday was an arrogant display of impunity by few overzealous people in government. Raila added that an election is an opportunity for voters to express their will at the ballot and not an avenue to pursue imaginary, short- legged political interest.
" The peaceful co- existence post- 2018 must not be taken for granted by some rogue elements wanting to confuse Handshake for an excuse to erode our hard- earned liberties. This must stop" quoted his Twitter post.
This just comes hours after IEBC suspended tallying at Mang' u High School tally center for the parliamentary seat for Juja. In an official Statement released by IEBC, the commission said the suspension comes after disruption by individuals led by Kiambu Governor James Nyoro. They said the move was meant to ensure the safety of its staff and election materials. They will however resume after normalcy is restored.
Other by elections that were conducted yesterday include the Bonchari parliamentary seat that saw ODM man Robert Obwoto Oimeke declared winner after gannering 8, 049 votes. He was however closely followed by former MP Zebedeo Opore and Mama Teresia who 7, 279 and 6, 964 votes respectively. The win has so far been welcomed by ODM party.
UDA party also congratulated their man after clinching the Rurii MCA in Nyandarua county. Francis Muraya was also declared winner by the IEBC.￼Yesterday' s election were not that smooth as there were many accusations of bribery and attempts to rig the election. In Bonchari, a man was arrested dishing out cash for a political side. ODM' s Edwin Sifuna came spoke against attempts to bribe voters or rig the election. Juja Member of Parliament seat by election had a heated one as Governor Governor Nyoro claimed there were some votes being left out.
