Raila Odinga Criticises Ruto Heavily For Wooing Azimio Leaders To Kenya Kwanza

President-elect William Ruto has come under fire from Raila Odinga for improperly bringing members of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party into the Kenya Kwanza fold.

This practice was adopted during the KANU era to undermine legislative independence and slow the establishment of multiparty democracy. "As we issue this declaration, Mr. Ruto is assiduously courting some of the leaders elected as Independents and Azimio Coalition members to defect to his side."

According to Odinga, the agreement all of the Azimio constituent parties signed to formally join the coalition before to the 2022 elections laid out the procedures any of them wishing to leave in the future would need to follow.

But he asserted that none of them had yet put such plans into action and that they were all still firmly a part of the coalition party.

"Mr. Ruto preaches water but drinks wine," someone once said. He ought to be aware that a vibrant pluralism, in which several political parties contend with one another over issues, is essential to democracy. Prof. Mutua predicts that attempts to corrupt Azimio's members in order to cannibalize it will fail.
