Wafula Chebukati, the chair of the IEBC, has delivered yet another bombshell to politicians who campaign using public funds. According to the IEBC, politicians who are caught campaigning with public funds and state machinery will be prosecuted, and their cases will be handed over to the DPP.
Chebukati has made it plain that state officers will not be allowed to use public resources, such as vehicles, in their campaigns. Let's wait and watch as we approach the August 9th elections, because it's evident that DP Ruto has been utilizing his position as well as government vehicles to campaign. Raila Odinga is doing the same thing, using both government and state officers in his campaigns.
It's only a matter of time until Chebukati follows through on his warning and takes action against those who are campaigning with public funds. It is apparent that the majority of members of parliament are also utilizing CDF vehicles for campaigning, which is an unpleasant situation.
