The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summoned five senior Wiper officials on suspicion of presenting false documents to justify a change in the party lists before the Independent Electoral and Border Commission (IEBC).
Among the officials summoned are party president Chirau Ali Mwakwere, general secretary Shakilla Abdalla and Agatha Solitei, chairman of the party's electoral council. Others are Roy Ombasa, the head of the ICT party, and Abdulla Gakurya.
Reports indicate that the party had proposed Abubakar Ahmed Talib as the party's candidate for parliament. However, in his revised modifications, the party replaced him in favor of Lucas Mulinge Wambua.
However, Talib contested the changes and filed a complaint with the police that his name had been illegally removed from the list due to the submission of false affidavits to justify the changes. Since then, the DCI has summoned senior officials after doubts were raised about Wambua's suitability to represent the ethnic minority category in parliament.
DCI officials familiar with the matter are investigating the possibility of false profanity involving match officials, an offense contrary to section 114 of the Criminal Code.
