Nyeri Kieleweke Members of Parliament have found themselves in an embarrassing situation after Kenyans on social media castigated and accused of engaging in politics of mudslinging.
This follows after Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu posted a photo of himself and his colleagues on Facebook page and wrote a comment, pointing out that they represented the entire county on national political matters.
The legislators who had posed for the photo included Ngunjiri Wambugu, James Gichuhi (Tetu), Mugambi Gichuki (Othaya), James Mathenge alias Kanini Kega (Kieni) and Anthony Kiai (Mukurweini). They call themselves Mt Kenya Focus Group.
However, the photo and the post elicited criticisms from netizens who took to the comments section to express their feelings on the same issue.
A number of them lambasted the Nyeri legislators for lacking substantial agenda to deliberate on. They quipped that the group was just preoccupied with deputy president Dr William Ruto. They noted that they kept on strategizing on how to stop Dr Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Others reminded them that they would be voted out come 2022 general election because they had no right priorities for their electorate. They averred that Mt Kenya region could not wait for a few individuals like them to advise them on their next political move.
This comes after Mt Kenya tycoons together with some Kieleweke MPs met former prime minister Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Gideon Moi. Their deliberations revolved around formation of 2022 political coalitions.
The Nyeri MPs took the photo on Thursday evening after meeting the businessmen and the OKA leaders.
