Squeezed Timelines for UDA Party and ODM as Chebukati Makes a Major Announcement

Kenya is experiencing an intensive campaign period as the August polls near. The presidential contest is shaping up to be a two horse race between deputy president William Ruto and former prime minister Raila Odinga. ODM party and UDA party seem to be the two most popular parties on the ground.

As major political parties continue to campaign, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has made a major announcement regarding the party primaries. Chebukati has said that all political parties must send names of their candidates before April 9.

This means that all political parties must conduct nominations for respective positions before April 9. Major political parties in the country led by UDA and ODM have very little time to plan and conduct nominations going by the set timelines.

According to IEBC, Independent candidates have until May 2 to submit their names. The commission has also maintained that the general election will be conducted on August 9th.

Going with this announcement, migration of politicians from one political outfit to the other is expected to be on top gear starting from February. Some leaders have already started shifting camps.
