As tension continues to mount between the opposition spearheaded by the Azimio La Umoja and the current Kenya Kwanza government under President William Ruto, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has laid out a damning statement.
Speaking on behalf of the Azimio, Sifuna proclaimed that talks with Ruto have failed to reach fruition despite the prolonged attempts of trying to convince him to sit at the negotiation table. As a result, the opposition has now been forced to take to the streets and demonstrate against the president and his administration.
Sifuna also suggested that Ruto’s supporters have been perpetuating false information about the demonstrations, claiming that they will lead to looting and destruction. He firmly denounced these statements and noted that all protests so far have been peaceful and law-abiding, noting that these outcomes have been precisely in accordance with the president's prediction that protests will come out of rallies.
Overall, Sifuna insists that the protests are an inevitable reaction to the refusal of Ruto to listen to the opposition and instead, an escalation of their grievances seems the only solution for now.
