Details Emerge On When Wafula Chebukati Is Going To Announce The Official Presidential Results

Wafula Chebukati, head of the IEBC, is scheduled to make the official declaration of election results for president late on Monday. The panel reportedly met on Sunday and decided to complete vote tallying on Monday. The commission has until Tuesday at midnight in 2022 to issue an official statement of the results of the election.

On Sunday, as the country awaited election results, leading contenders Raila Odinga and William Ruto urged calm and patience. Kenyans voted for a president, parliament, governors, and county assembly members last Tuesday, but the results of the presidential vote have been delayed. The public's dissatisfaction with the slow pace at which official vote tallying has been moving has been voiced by Wafula Chebukati, chairwoman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The election on Tuesday is considered as a barometer of Kenya's political stability, thus both Ruto and Raila have called for calm. The two leaders sought consolation at different Karen church services as tensions around the referendum reached a fever pitch, and they both implored their people to remain calm and tolerant.

However, the constitutional deadline for announcing the results is next Tuesday, and the race is still too close to call at this point.
