As the clock ticks towards the 2022 General Elections, politicians are quickly turning to various tricks and antics to charm the public in a bid to win votes.
Currently politicians are focused on mobilizing eligible citizens to come out and register as they prepare for next year's polls.
On Saturday, October 17, Embakai East Member of Parliament Babu Owino through Facebook, posted a video of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu popularly known as Bobi Wine encouraging Kenyans to register as voters and support the first-term lawmaker in his bid to recapture the seat.
“Greetings my brothers and sisters in Kenya this is Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine from Uganda and I am sending greetings to the people of Kenya, more particularly the people of Embakasi East where my brother Babu Owino comes from, I want to remind you that it is very important to assert your constitutional rights please register and make sure you are able to vote and of course when you go out to vote, vote for my brother Babu Owino” he stated.
On the other hand, the Embakasi East Legislator was grateful to the Ugandan politician for his clarion call to the people of Embakasi East.
“A big thank you to the President of the Republic of Uganda His Excellency Bobi Wine for encouraging Kenyans to register as voters and advising the Great people of Embakasi East Republic to vote for me in 2022. We love you HE.Bobi Wine,” Owino’s statement read.
A section of pro-Bobi Wine supporters took to social media to hail the former artist for his alliance with the legislator.
“My brother Owino, I come from Uganda and if you do not mind my followers and I would love to come vote for you because here in Uganda where our president Bobi Wine puts a hand is where we vote so please help us and let us come vote for you.”
“We need fresh young blood to stir Africa to greatness. Long live Bobi Wine President elect of Uganda and Babu Owino the people’s MP Embakasi,” read a section of the comments online
However, others felt that the Ugandan politician ought to distance himself from the Kenyan legislator.
“He should know you are in Nairobi and not Kampala where he can easily influence voter's and if Embakasi East people see you have not performed you will just fail.”
“Bobi wine is the true representative of comrades who fights for the comrades unlike Babu. I am very sure Bobi has no information about how Babu is a monster to the young people who do not sleep to feed their young family. Bobi Wine kindly distance yourself from Babu Owino” read a section of comments online.
Bobi Wine was in Nairobi for Silas Jakakimba's wedding, where he was in the company of other public figures such as city lawyer Donald Kipkorir and comedian Jalang'o, among others.
