The ODM party has been accused of possible infights amongst the members after it emerged that some politicians shared different views from the party position. These reports were more intensified when Narok senator, Ledama Ole Kina, seemed to go against the party position during the Senate debates.
In the recent days, there has been rumours of a possible fall out between the handshake partners, Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta. The reports started after James Orengo and Junet Mohammed accused some civil servants of engaging in 2022 succession politics in a move to shortchange Odinga. A disconnect was seen after some members of the same party said that the handshake was intact and nothing was going wrong.
A statement made by the National assembly Minority leader, John Mbadi, has turned out to be untrue. Speaking at an interview in KTN News on Thursday 25, the legislator said that Raila Odinga cannot meet with anyone because he is currently in isolation after testing positive for Covid-19. Mbadi was responding to a question on why Raila was not invited to a meeting at Statehouse where president Uhuru Kenyatta met with Coast governors.
Though it is true that the former prime minister is in isolation, it has turned out to be a lie that he can't meet anyone. This is after he held a meeting at his Karen home on Friday 26, just a day after Mbadi's statement. Odinga met New York attorney, Ochoro Otunnu, where he was awarded by a gift of a book.
“Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world. This morning I received a gift of a book from New York attorney Ochoro E. Otunnu. Mr Otunnu relayed best wishes from DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and friends in the diaspora." Tweeted Odinga.
This action by the ODM party leader has disapproved Mbadi. It is therefore clear that Raila being in isolation is not a substantive reason to why he wasn't invited at Statehouse for a meeting with the coast governors. This raises the question if there could be a disconnect in ODM party and it's communication structures.
