Waiguru's Pleading Message to IEBC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to draw lessons from the general election in August 2022.

Speaking at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi to launch the IEBC's post-election evaluation report for the August 9, 2022 election, Waiguru urged the IEBC to carefully examine the previous election in order to inform the conduct of the next election.

The Chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) noted that the observation was useful because it would aid in the adoption of necessary strategies.

"There is a need to look at what worked, what failed, and the lessons learned in order to come up with strategies to make the 2027 general election a success," she said.

She stated that among the fundamental issues and critical areas that needed to be addressed were legal, policy, and administrative frameworks that would inform and guide the IEBC's activities in conducting free and fair elections.

"Risk assessment, recruitment, training, and placement of electoral personnel, political party nominations, voter registration, voter education and information, logistical issues, electoral observations, the actual voting process, counting, tallying, dispute resolution, announcement of results, and electoral security, among other things," she added.
