Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetang'ula earned the bragging rights after his candidate emerged victorious in the just concluded by-elections in Kabuchai.
Ford Kenya candidate Simiyu Majimbo Kalasinga trounced his competitors after garnering 65 per cent of the votes while his closest challenger Masinde Evans Kaikai of UDA Party managed only 22 per cent of the total votes.
Kalasinga got 19,274 votes emerging the winner of the by-election and was followed at a distant second by Masinde Kaikai who got 6, 455 votes.
In his victory speech, Kalasinga had kind words for his Party leader for getting him this far and picking him from nowhere to making him a Member of Parliament.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the party leader Moses Wetangula, Party Chairman and Ford Kenya youth league for the support untill this far. I know it is difficult to to take over from able leadership of James Lusweti but I want to assure the people of Kabuchai that I will give my best. I want to thank my party leader again for picking me from nowhere and here I am the MP," said Kalasinga.
In his speech Wetangula said the people of Bungoma County cannot be sold to the highest bidder since they are principled and know where they belong.
He expressed gratitude to the almighty God for taking control of the party at a time it was facing huge challenges.
He took a swipe at the Tangatanga brigade for imagining that they will use financial resources to win votes.
"If money was to make people leaders, some of us would not have been leaders. Don't think that if you have a bag of money you can convolute our people to support you," said Wetangula who appeared to take a swipe at the Deputy President William Ruto.
The Kabuchai By-election was deemed a fight between the Deputy President William Ruto and Wetang'ula in their bid to take control of Bungoma County.
While on the other hand, Matungu turned out to be a three horse race between Mudavadi, Raila Odinga and DP Ruto who were keen on making a political statement ahead of 2022.
DP Ruto who appeared to have invested heavily in Matungu and Kabuchai lost massively as the only victory he could claim in the 7 by-elections held on Thursday is that of London Ward.
The Kabuchai and Matungu By-election saw pockets of violence witnessed across several polling station over voter bribery allegations.
Allies if the Deputy President William including Senator Samson Cherargei, MP Nelson Korir and their Kiminini counterpart Didmus Barasa were arrested in Kabuchai in connection to the voter bribery allegations.
