Nairobi: KANU Die-hard Politician Speaks After Salat Led A Group Of Defectors From The Outfit To UDA

Nairobi-based Kenya African National Union (KANU) die-hard politician Weston Wanjohi has now spoken moments after the party's ex-Secretary General, Nick Salat led a group of defectors from the outfit to United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In his Facebook page, Wanjohi noted that the Independence party was as formidable as a jungle lion. He spoke the same as he shared a logo of the party in a move to send an effective message to any detractors, informing them on how it was still unshakeable.

"KANU is still firm like a lion (KANU iko imara Kama simba!)," Said Wanjohi.

This comes hours after Salat and other politicians decamped from KANU for the ruling party ahead of 2022 general election.

Received by the novel party Secretary General Cleophas Malala, the team vowed to support the government of the day, led by president Dr William Ruto. They denounced their association with KANU and its boss Gideon and pledged to be part of the team which would drum up support for Dr Ruto's 2027 re-election bid.

The group comprised of politicians who unsuccessfully ran for elective seats in 2022 polls and grassroot leaders of the party.

Malala lauded the leaders for making the bold decision and assured them of unwavering support in the party. He noted that his initiative to reach out to them before they decamped to UDA was aimed at consolidating the outfit in preparation for 2027 general election. He promised to continue mobilizing more politicians from the opposition side of political divide to join UDA so that the party becomes stronger and more formidable and, have more chances of forming government again in 2027.

This is a blow to Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance as well as KANU since they have lost key grassroot footsolders to their arch-rival.

However, it is a boast to Dr Ruto and Kenya Kwanza fraternity because they might easily win elections in 2027.
