She had officially announced her arrival into Nairobi's hard tackle politics when she joined the race for Embakasi Central MP seat in the run up to the 2022 general election.
But before making a huge plunge into politics, Mercy Nyabwala had made a name for herself as one of the rising legal minds in Kenya. Besides that, she had maintained a close political relationship with ODM political heavyweights.
With ODM as her party of choice to springboard her political ambitions, Nyabwala hoped to upset the incumbent, Julius Mawathe to win the seat in her first attempt at elective politics.
However, against her expectations, she was prevailed upon by Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga to step out of the race in favour of Mawathe. She wholeheartedly did that without objection.
At the time, there were very high hopes that Raila will clinch the presidency. As such, the youthful politician would be considered for top government job. But it was not to be.

A few months after the election, Nyabwala has found herself in the political arms of President William Ruto.
She is among the Azimio la Umoja coalition politicians from Raila's Nyanza region backyard who recently denounced the former Prime Minister when they met the President at State House.
But considering Nyanza region's politics where loyalty to Raila is key of you are to survive politically, has Nyabwala made a huge gamble that will forever dim her otherwise rising political star?
Going forward, she will have to do some serious soul-searching if she is to avoid becoming the latest casualty of rebellion against Raila.
