Null and Void, Raila Odinga Dismisses Ruto's Election, Reveals Next Steps

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has dismissed the election of Deputy President William Ruto as President Elect.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday from KICC, Raila said Chebukati's decision to announce Ruto as the winner is Null and Void.

He said the chairman went against the laws by announcing Ruto without the requisite numbers of commissioners. He said it was evident the process was not transparent since the four commissioners were kept in the dark and were not briefed.

"What we saw yesterday was a total disregard of the constitution by Mr. Chebukati. The law does not give him legal authority to take weighty decisions and the ruling of the IEBC. A decision should be taken by a majority or by a consensus of all commissioners. The chairperson has no legal authority to take decisions and proclaim them as the ruling of the IEBC," he stated

He claimed Chebukati did not entertain consultation with his commissioners as required by law, adding that the commissioners walked out and denounced the results.

He said they are heading to the Supreme court where they will challenge the results. He said they do not recognize Ruto and Rigathi as the president-elect and deputy president elect. adding that the process was unlawfully and was not conducted in a transparent manner

"The figures announced by Chebukati are Null and Void and must be challenged at the court of law There is neither legally and validly declared winner nor a president-elect. Mr. Chebukati's announcement is annuity. He acted with cross impunity and total disregard of our laws. He could have plunged our country into chaos. Such can be a threat to the security of our country, We leave the decision of deciding whether Chebukati has committed an offense to the appropriate authorities
