The Deputy President Hon. William Ruto yesterday at his home in Karen following a security shift that led to withdrawal of the General Service Unit (GSU) security wing and was replaced by the Administration Police[APs].
The reasons for the withdrawal of the GSU was not well elaborated and Matiang'i confirmed that its was due to a consensus that was agreed within different security units.
Today the tune has been different after the interior cabinet secretary Hon. Fred Matiang'i wants to involve the parliament in the discussion of the security withdrawal according to the People Daily Newspaper.
Hon. William Ruto said that there is no problem because the APs perform the same security task as the GSU and he consider the involvement of the MPs as wastage of time and resources.
"PARLIAMENTARY time should not be WASTED on non-issues. The AP is a PROFESSIONAL SECURITY SERVICE and those who think its a down grade are WRONG. Parliament should instead focus on DEPLOYMENT to serious security SITUATIONS in areas where bandits are causing mayhem & destruction." Hon Ruto on his official Twitter handle.
Here are some of the response from Kenyans:
