What will happen to Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant-General Francis Ogolla later this year has now been made clear.
Following President William Ruto's revelations that some of the military chiefs were involved in the plan to rig the election and cheat him out of his victory in the August 2022 presidential election, Ogolla is one of the military bosses who may be in his bad books.
Wafula Chebukati, Chair of the IEBC, had stated in his affidavits that Ogolla was one of the National Security Advisory Council (NSAC) members who met him shortly before he announced the results.
He went on to say that they tried to persuade him to declare Raila Odinga, a candidate for Azimio La Umoja, the winner, rather than Ruto, who was the actual winner.
In addition, it's possible that Ruto won't need to fire Ogolla, who will be retiring from office later this year, because he has been seen removing people he believes worked against him and replacing them with loyalists.
According to The Standard, the Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Philip Kameru, is also getting close to retiring and will do so in two years.
In his affidavits to the Supreme Court, Chebukati claimed that the NSAC team, which also included Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, insisted that he manipulate the results to prevent Ruto from winning.
In its counter affidavit, the NSAC made it clear that it wanted to meet Chebukati to find out why the IEBC was taking too long to make the final announcement, not to interfere with the results.
