The lives of ordinary Kenyans has continued to get tighter with the increasing prices of essential goods and services. The most recent case has been the increase in the price of fuel that caused uproar among members of the public. The increase led to a sharp increase in the prices of other goods which led to increased criticism to the government.
However, High Court judge Justice James Makau in his latest ruling has dealt the president Uhuru Kenyatta administration a blow after he temporarily quashed bid to higher taxes on petroleum products. According to justice Makau, the move will be danger to Kenyans in the further increase of fuel prices.
The announcement by justice Makau will be celebrated by Kenyans after several moves by the Members of Parliament and senators to call on the government to reduce the prices failed to yield fruits.
The key question will however be whether the government will obey the court directive and lift any move to increase the taxes on petroleum products.
