As we approach the 2022 general elections, politicians have started to make early preparations to either retain their positions or rise to new positions. There are normally six elective posts in every general elections in the country. These posts include; the Presidential post, the Gubernatorial post, the Senatorial post, the post of the Women Representative, Member of Parliament and Member of County Assembly.
In Busia County, the race to succeed the outgoing Governor Hon. Sospeter Ojamong has been gearing up in each day. The politics of Busia County are determined by the type of political party and tribal alignments. The Orange Democratic Party has been enjoying massive support from the region. The Iteso and Luhyas are the two major communities in the county.
The seat has so far attracted the likes of Nambale Member of Parliament Sakwa Bunyasi, Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua, County Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, Dr. Meso, Engineer Barasa, former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma and Senator Amos Wako.
The political party factor will be a major tool in determining the next Busia County governor. Although Paul Otuoma came second in the heavily contested elections of 2013, the race has taken the shape following his withdrawal from ODM party. As things stand now, Busia County Women Representative Florence Mutua has the higher chances of being given the ODM party ticket in 2022. This will make her the candidate with the highest chances of winning the race.
