Two Reasons Why Ruto's UDA Might Experience Mass Exodus in The Near Future Ahead of 2022

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party is currently with no doubt one of the biggest political Parties in the country. The party was formed from the former Party of Development and Reforms (PDR), a political outfit founded by the current Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju in 2012, and the name UDA came to be in December 2020 after the Party's ownership was changed.

UDA is headed by Deputy President (DP) William Ruto as the Party leader and former Machakos County Senator Johnson Muthama as the chairperson. The party fielded candidates in the various by-elections held in the country and has so far won two Parliamentary seats; Kiambaa and Msambweni Constituencies.

The party's popularity has continued to grow especially at the grassroots level with the party members mobilizing Kenyans to rally behind them. Most of its members decamped from the ruling Jubilee Party with majority attributing their move to people's will.

However, UDA's popularity might soon be sabotaged and might soon experience mass exit ahead of 2022 General Elections for two major reasons;

1. The issue of forming Alliances with small Parties

Ruto has maintained that the Party will not form coalitions with small parties claiming that UDA is a national outfit. Dismissing coalitions will force some leaders out of the camp, a good example being that of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and The Service Party (TSP) Party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri.

2. Uhuru's anticipated move before retirement

Close allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta led by Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu recently leaked Uhuru's plan before leaving the office. It was disclosed that the President will tour Mt Kenya region informing the people on the benefits they would have reaped from BBI report and name the people behind its failure.

Uhuru's move might significantly change Mt Kenya politics and later have an impact on Ruto's UDA. The President will mobilize people against the Party's leaders cooling its popularity forcing them to adjust accordingly.
