Dr. Fred Matiang'i confirm that 10th October 2020 is a Public Holiday

In a press release dated 9th October 2020, the cabinet secretary confirmed that 10th October 2020 will be a public holiday called Huduma Day. The celebrations of the day shall be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Kisii.

The CS encourage Kenyans to celebrate through prayers that will highlight service and volunteerism to the community, promote national unity and promote social justice. However, most Kenyans will follow up the event on media due to corona virus.

The day was previously celebrated as Moi Day. However, after the promulgation of Kenyan Constitution in 2010, the day was removed from a list of national holidays. Later on 8th November 2017, the High Court restored back the holiday. Justice George Odunga ruled that scrapping off Moi Day from a list of national holidays was an illegality. The comeback of the holiday was announced by CS Matiang'i on 8th October 2018.
