Succession to power needs allegiance to the people across the divide. He needs votes from all parts of the country so that all the citizens see him as their leader who will serve them equally. Becoming a president with zero votes from a particular region will make the people feel alienated even though we are in a democratic nation.
Ruto's visit to Nyanza region can make a great landmark result in his political career. In politics everything is possible. Today you are an enemy tomorrow the most applauded leader. Right now it is clear that DP cannot receive a warm welcome in Nyanza region. He's only allied to few MPs from the Kisii side, Silvanus Osoro. All he needs to do is to penetrate the region by using political kingpins in the region. With half of Nyanza backing up the DP, he will easily succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Well after his meeting with Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, his next big move should be convincing people from Nyanza at large so as to come up with a strong line up for 2022 succession politics.
Nyanza currently have 4 governors who have served for a maximum of 2 terms. Governors Rasanga (Siaya county), Obado (Migori), Awiti (Homabay) and Ongwae (Kisii) have served their term limits. These leaders should be the DPs bait to solicit for votes.
