The wife of Rigathi Gachagua, Kenya's Deputy President, Dorcus Rigathi has just revealed to Kenyans that she was not raised in a rich family but came from the ghetto.
While addressing women and encouraging them, Dorcus revealed that coming from the ghetto did not stop her from raising into power and becoming Kenya's second lady. She was using her scenario to encourage Kenyan women to believe in themselves and their capabilities no matter where they hail from.
“Coming from the ghetto has not stopped me from rising to be the Second Lady of the Republic,” Pastor Dorcus Gachagua said.
Her sentiment elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans, with many wondering if all politicians came from 'poor families', here are some comments:
"It's funny that every person who climbs to high offices (even through corruption) claim to come from poor families", Jarateng questioned.
"Being the second lady is not one's achievement, it's thanks to your husbands ambition.. or how did you rise ? From third lady ?", Joyline Chebet said.
"I came to understand how boring I sounded every time I told people that I made it from a very poor background. It is nauseating", Steven Owano said.
Dorcas has been married to Rigathi Gachagua for 35yrs and the two are blessed with two sons. They met at the University of Nairobi where Gachagua was a student and Dorcus a student at Kenyatta University but had gone for a school trip at UON, and as they say the rest is history. She believes in prayers and her prayer worriorship has been evident in the country ever since Kenya Kwanza took over leadership.
