A new directive to combat Covid-19 by Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I has elicited mixed reactions. The new directive is an enforcement of the laid down regulations by Uhuru Kenyatta about a month ago. In the new directive Curfew hours in 5 counties continue to be 8 pm and the rest of the counties is 10 pm.
This directive has dented a huge blow to the transport sector who hoped that the minister would offer them an opportunity to carry full capacity but at the same time observe the social distance. This however the complete opposite of their expectation.
The other sector dented is the hotel and restaurant industry which has witnessed a loss of jobs in recent days. Only take-away foods are being allowed and according to the management of these eateries, this cannot sustain the operations of such businesses. Uhuru is expected to address the nation next month with many hoping that the curve shall have flattened.
