Kisumu County has been undergoing demolitions that impacted negatively on traders and some residents. These demolitions were first done on orders by the Kisumu County Governor professor Peter Anyang Nyong'o. Ealier last year, the governor temporarily stopped demolitions affecting small scale traders in Kisumu until the Uhuru market is opened.
Kisumu County has also been doing several development projects. One of the projects is to rehabilitate Kisumu Port, this has necessitated rehabilitation of old railway lines. It is because of this that Kenya Railways Corporation has been doing demolitions of structures built along the railway lines. The demolitions started by Obunga slums. Currently, residents alleged to Nubians, who are leaving around Kibos are stranded after their houses were demolished by the Kenya Railways Corporation. These people are left in the cold with children.
It is a good project to rehabilitate the old railway lines. How, i wish that there could be a better way of demolishing these homes so that they don't affect residents this much.
