The upcoming general election will be a hotly contested affair in kirinyaga county where the incumbent governor Ann Waiguru seeks to defend her seat against stiff opposition from women representative purity Ngirici.
Waiguru who is vying on United Democratic Alliance party led by the deputy president William Ruto was the reason why Ngirici left the party she helped found forcing her to vie on an independent ticket.
In the latest online opinion poll by an online digital media, Waiguru takes an early lead with 55 percent while ngirice trails with 45 percent.
Besides the two foremost contenders, other aspirants are former governor Joseph ndathi who lost to Waiguru in 2017 but now seeks a comeback.
Another one is Peter Ndambiri who is the current deputy governor for kirinyaga but has since fallen out with his boss and is supporting the azimio coalition's candidate Raila Odinga.
According to the latest statistics from the lolls agency IEBC, the county has 349,836 registered voters.
