A ferocious political war between Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga in the interest to control the Coast region is spicing up less than two years to the 2022 political contest amidst speculations of a political coalition between the two.
In what seems to have sent jitters in Dp Ruto's camp, ODM deputy party leader in the company of his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi and Kwale’s Salim Mvurya, who is a Ruto diehard, met with President Uhuru Kenyatta in State House, Nairobi last week.
While details of their meeting are still scanty, it's believed that the President might have moved in to help his handshake partner, to cease the fire of rebellion in the Coast region brought by Dp Ruto's Intrusion in the region perceived an Odinga stronghold.
Ruto and his 'Hustler Nation' lieutenants have been making intrudes in the region with the aim of swinging the region that has loyally voted for Raila since 2007 away from him. Thanks to his aggressive visits, Ruto has successfully lured key Raila allies in the region to his camp to the tune of even winning the tumultuously contested Msambweni by election seat late last year.
While Ruto depends on 'outsiders' from the region and ODM leader's loyal Mps turn fierce critics led by Malindi Mp Aisha Jumwa to help popularize his bid in the region, Odinga seems to be heavily relying on, his political lieutenants from the region to ring fence it from Ruto. With the battle promising to be ferocious, ODM leader Raila Odinga's should have his eyes fixed on Nominated Senator Agnes Zani to help him slow down the growing rebellion.
Dr. Zani is one of the biggest political voices in the region and could help Odinga's camp neutralize and water down the growing Ruto tidal wave in the Coast. When she joined politics in 2013, the former University of Nairobi Lecturer was brushed off as a political newbie who couldn't stand the dynamic coastal Politics but Zani has proved that she is no pushover not only in the Coast region politics but also in the country's political arena.
Having been a close allie to Odinga, she must be well versed with the right tactics to sway the region in Odinga's favour and at the end of the day bring in a bumper harvest save ODM from Ruto's humiliation
