Kericho County is one of the counties that are located in the Rift Valley region and the county is dominated by the Kalenjin Community. In terms of politics, Kericho County is the political background of Deputy President William Ruto.

As we approach the eargerly awaited August general elections, the race to succeed the outgoing governor Paul Chepkwony who is serving his last constitutional term has been taking the new shape. The race has attracted the likes of Eric Mutai of UDA party, Lily Ngok, Prof James Sang, Engineer Samuel Rotich and Elijah Maru.

From the current political engagements and activities in Kericho County, the race to succeed govenor Paul Chepkwony is likely going to be tough for Eric Mutai of UDA party and the current Deputy County Governor Lily Ngok. The two candidates have been moving around the county to popularize their different gubernatorial bids.

Eric Mutai is likely going to win the race because of the growing influence of UDA party in Kericho County. In addition to that, Mutai will be banking on his close relationship with Deputy President William Ruto towards the eagerly awaited August general elections.
