Pwani region has been supporting ODM party since 2007. Most political leaders from coastal region have stood with Raila even in difficult times. However, in recent days the leaders have made sentiments implying that they may leave the ODM camp. The speculations by many political analysts that the whole region may back William Samoei Ruto after leaving ODM has now been flashed off by Hasan Joho today.
Today while issuing bursaries in Mvita Joho requested Raila to support him in his presidential aspirations. He said that the coastal region is not going to form any political party to use in the 2022 elections. Together with the Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nasir they said that it's high time other ODM leaders to support them since the region has played a critical role in developing the ODM party.
This news might have a severe impact on the Tanga Tanga leaders who might have eyed the support of the likes of Joho, Amazon Kingi among others. Already the hustlers had camped in coast after Joho and Kingi made it clear that they were not going to support anyone else apart from their own, a move aimed at getting their support (my opinion).
Ruto has the support of some leaders like Mohammed Ali, Hassan Omar and Aisha Jumwah. If not backed by Joho who's the most influential person in coast then getting coastal votes might be fifty fifty for him. Also,if Raila supporters Governor 001 in his presidential campaign then chances of Ruto getting coastal votes are minimal.
