As the DP takes on the responsibility to fulfill a crucial campaign promise that energized his Mt. Kenya base behind their presidential bid, President Ruto assigned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua the responsibility of managing coffee reforms.

Late last month, Mr. Gachagua warned brokers and cartels in the tea and coffee sectors that the government would deal decisively with them during the funeral of seasoned politician Matu Wamae in Mathira.
A week prior to the President reorganizing his cabinet on Monday by issuing an Executive Order that placed the Coffee Sub-Sector Reforms Implementation Standing Committee under the DP's office, Mr. Gachagua had made it clear he was eager to take on the role.

Mr. Gachagua further pointed out that the fight against cartels in the coffee, tea, and dairy industries has not been successful since those who were in charge of protecting farmers' interests were simultaneously working for their own financial gain.
He promised to prevent the enslavement of farmers.
