The Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission has today withdrawn themselves from 2022 elections committee which was formed to investigate and analyze on how the 2022 elections will be held and I.E . B. C was among the expected members of the committee.
The commission withdrawal from the committee was inevitable following the blame by some interested contestants that their is a plan to rig the elections in 2022. This came up as a result of participation of some state organs such as judiciary in election affairs as the chief justice of the republic of Kenya was among the members of the committee, the UDA members raised concerns about the chief justice membership and she claimed that she was only representing the state organs and her presence had nothing to do with rigging of 2022 elections.
The I. E. B. C being an independent body, they had a hard time to decide whether to be Members or not but the best option was to withdraw as people had started doubting the independence of the electoral body if the commissioners could participate in the elections committee meeting. That could show that the I. E. B. C is no longer independent and the state organs can just interfere with them at any time.
