The August general election is fast approaching and politicians are laying out strategies that will guarantee them a place in the next government. Alignments, forging of political parties and forming of alliances are some of the activities that have dominated the political arena.
A fresh turn is expected in Nyandarua politics after a section of Kikuyu Elders endorsed the current woman representative, Faith Gitau, to be the county's third governor. Faith is a close ally of the deputy president and will be vying for the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat on a UDA party ticket.
During a ceremony that was held on Saturday 22nd at Chakareri primary school in Oljororok constituency, the elders led by Thuku Watuthu agreed to back Gitau's bid terming her as the best suited person to steer Nyandarua interests.

A group of women dressed in the traditional Kikuyu dresses also backed Gitau for the gubernatorial seat. The women blessed the woman representative with the four ululations as it was done in the Kikuyu culture.
This step is a major setback to Raila Odinga and the entire handshake team. Most Kenyans would have expected the elders to back the current governor, Francis Kimemia, who has been championing for the Azimio la Umoja in Mt Kenya region.
The move by the elders is also a major boost to William Ruto and the entire UDA party team. Gitau will now be a step ahead while doing her campaigns across the county.
