"I was there leader for four years and we were doing well. We fell out when this seat came up for competition," he said.
While appearing for an interview on Inooro FM, Mr Gachagua disclosed they associated like brothers and sisters until the time to choose a presidential deputy presented itself.
Mr Gachagua rubbished the allegations he is abrasive, crude and dictatorial, adding "what I know I is that am hardworking is a stand."
He said people need not be afraid that if Dr Ruto wins the presidency he will unleash his traits to limit who gets closer to the President's ear.
"We will have an open-door-policy presidency where all will see the President. We don't have any ill plans to limit access presidency," he said.
Rigathi Gachagua confessed that the procedure drove brought a conflict between his side and Mt Kenya leaders who seemed to have favoured Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, who got 24 votes from the 30 politicians.
