SRC Latest Stand Over Increasing MPs Salaries

The Ksh8.7 billion sitting allowance for lawmakers has been eliminated, according to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). The Ksh710,000 pay allocated for legislators, according to SRC chairperson Lyn Mengich, is sufficient for the elected officials.

She continued by saying that the MPs' directive was taken into account in determining the salary cap. "Your base salary of Ksh710,000 accounts for all duties performed in accordance with the provisions of monitoring, representation, and lawmaking in the Constitution.

The SRC's stance was announced when information about a contentious five-hour discussion between the commission and the MPs surfaced.

The legislators asked SRC reconsider their salary in the meeting on Wednesday, September 21, claiming it was insufficient for their national mandate. The ability to have automobiles with more than 3000cc and car grants were two further demands made by the legislators.
