Following the vandalism of the Makupa causeway bridge located on the mainland bound traffic, remedial action is being taken to repair the bridge. This comes after inspection was launched only to find that metal surfaces were cut from the bridge and believed to have been sold in scrapes. According to Kenya National Highway Authority reports the goons used wielding tools to cut the steel plates. The police officers confirmed the allegations after they found remains on the ground and warned the residents regarding the upcoming behaviour.
As the contractors are repairing the bridge continuos monitoring is being undertaken to ensure safety of the motorists as they cross the bridge. The few interviewed motorists vowed to report the individuals to the police officers found tampering with the bridge. The kenya National Highway Authority urges and encourages motorists to practice patience as remedial interventions are applied on the site. As the large metal surfaces were cut wood frames have been arranged to support the bridge as wielding sessions continues.
Kenya National Highway Authority further urges the public to report all cases of vandalism to the police for action on those responsible.
