One Kenya Alliance (OKA) is in limbo after one of its founders left the alliance as the race for the presidential election in 2022 heats up.
Gideon Moi, Chairman of the Kenya National Union, defected from the One Kenya Alliance to join ODM leader Raila Odinga, leaving his colleagues high and dry, including Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya).
According to sources, Gideon Moi is working on a coalition with Raila for 2022 and may deputize him in the upcoming election, where they will face off against Deputy President William Ruto, among others, in the presidential race.
Raila and Gideon Moi's alliance is thought to have President Uhuru Kenyatta's fingerprints all over it.
“We will be an integral part of the President's succession plan.”
“But what is important is that we first align our party in the best way possible through collaborations with other like-minded parties like ODM,” said a senior Kanu official who requested anonymity.
Gideon skipped a meeting in Nairobi last week attended by the three OKA principals.
The trio later stated in a statement that they met as NASA leaders rather than OKA leaders, possibly to minimize Gideon's absence.
Mudavadi and Kalonzo have stated unequivocally that they will not support Raila as a presidential candidate again.
