Raila Odinga's big day is tomorrow, when he will officially announce his presidential campaign at Kasarani in Nairobi. The event will be attended by high-profile lawmakers from across the country. Raila was at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Wednesday for a luncheon hosted by the Mt. Kenya Foundation. Azimio la umoja is expected to be attended by all of the leaders who attended the luncheon.
During the event, President Uhuru Kenyatta's hand was visible. Among the attendees were Margaret Kobia (Public Service, Youth, and Gender) and Sicily Kariuki (Public Service, Youth, and Gender) (Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation). Interior PS Karanja Kibicho was also in attendance. According to the elite group of businesspeople, Uhuru offered his invitation to enter Raila's Azimio La Umoja campaign.
Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, and Embu Governor Martin Wambora were all present. Amos Kimunya, the majority leader in the National Assembly, was among those there, as were politicians Junet Mohamed, Esther Passaris, Sabina Chege, and Maoka Maore.
Titus Ibui, vice chairman of the Mount Kenya Foundation, stated that leaders from the Mount Kenya Foundation and the Upya Movement will gather in Safari Park on Friday morning before traveling together to Kasarani for Raila's function. "We received Uhuru's blessings. He's the muthamaki (leader). If he hadn't given us his blessing, we would not have gone," Ibui explained.
On Tuesday, MPs led by John Mbadi, Maina Kamanda, and Richard Onyonka gathered at Orange House in Nairobi before viewing Kasarani stadium, which will host more than 60,000 people. "We have invited One Kenya Alliance principals and representatives from their parties, as well as other prominent leaders," said Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, the event's major organizer.
During his press conference, Oparanya, who is also the ODM deputy party head, revealed that Narc party leader and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu will be among those invited. Raila will very certainly form an alliance or coalition with other parties already aligned with his Azimio la Umoja campaign. He is collaborating with Ngilu's Narc, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi's Alliance Party of Kenya, nicknamed Mbus, Party of National Unity (PNU), and other Mt. Kenya groups.
The Azimio ceremony will also expectedly be attended by Governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), James Nyoro (Kiambu), Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Kiraitu, and Martin Wambora of Embu.
