After Juliana Cherera quit as a Commissioner for the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) because Ruto's allies put pressure on her to do so, the Vice Chair position was still open. Also, Commissioners Julius Nyang'anya and Francis Wanderi quit over the gross misconduct and breaking of the law during last year's general election. Only Commissioner Irene Masit from Cherera Four did not quit. Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, and Julius Nyang'anya were chosen by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was in office at the time, just a few days before the August election. The three had only been in their jobs for about three months before they quit. But they will still get paid, which is good news. Based on the contract they signed, Cherera, Wanderi, and Nyang'anya could be paid for the next six years. Cherera Four signed a contract to work in the office for six years. The contract is set to end in 2028, right after the general election in 2027. Under this, they could keep getting paid even when they weren't at work. This will cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
