A dramatic scene has unfolded in Masimba ward Kisii county after police officers invaded and stopped a UDA party function. Members of UDA party who are aspiring to vie for various political seats in Kisii had planned an event to launch the UDA party office in Masimba ward but their plans did not succeed.
The police officers who stopped the event claimed that they were enforcing the Covid-19 protocols as directed by the ministry of health. According to guidelines given by the government, all political gatherings remain halted until further notice.
However, UDA supporters who had gathered in Masimba town were dissatisfied with the reason given by the security officers. Through a viral video, the locals are heard saying that the police interfered with their democratic right of assembling.
Some said that there is biasness in the enforcement of the Covid-19 protocols. Some political gatherings have been going on without altercation by the government. The UDA supporters felt like the government is being unfair to them.
This is not the first time that a UDA function is getting disrupted by the police. A number of events have been stopped. There have been complains that the government is applying all efforts to humiliate William Ruto.
It is now a matter of wait and see what UDA party will say after this unexpected event. A beehive of activities have dominated the political arena in the past few weeks.
