According to his Sunday morning message, the late was receiving treatment in Nairobi of an undisclosed ailment with the message of his death reaching him in the morning.
At the time of his death, the late was serving as Sub County administrator within the government of the current governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Mutahi Kahiga has described him as having been a hardworking officer who served with utmost dilligence towards ensuring that his services were the best.
"We have woken up to very sad news of the death of Mr Joseph Thairu who passed on in a Nairobi hospital while undergoing treatment. He was The Kieni Cooperatives Officer. Joseph has served Nyeri in various capacities which saw him serve as Mayor of Nyeri, and also as a Sub County Administrator in the devolved unit. He was a dedicated officer who did his work well. Mr Thairu was forthright and honest in his dealings within his docket. To his family, relatives and friends; to his workmates we send our heartfelt condolences.
