Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has settled on David Kones as her running mate in her bid for the Governor position ahead of the August 9 general election.
Kihika made the announcement on Monday in Nakuru to set stage for a major political showdown pitting her with the incumbent Lee Kinyanjui, who is defending his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
The choice of her running mate was widely expected with the political dynamics of the county and the region in general taken into account.
Considering the demographics of Nakuru County, a member of the Kalenjin community was an obvious choice in her quest to oust Kinyanjui.
As a cosmopolitan county, Kikuyu form the majority of Nakuru's voting bloc with the Kalenjin coming second. It is very likely that these are some of the factors that Kihika looked at before settling on Kones to deputise her.
