Ruto on a Tight Scope as Mt Kenya Politician Dumps Him and Embraces President Uhuru Kenyatta

Deputy President, Dr William Samoei Ruto.

The 2022 arithmetics for Dr William Ruto are getting more complicated as different leaders from his camp continue to express divergent views while others are dumping him to find refuge in alternative camps.

It is with no doubt that the deputy president is banking heavily on the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to fill in to his presidential basket come 2022. This can be attributed to the efforts that the second in command have been employing to woo the region to his side.

Kirinyaga deputy governor, Peter Ndambiri, was among the politicians who accompanied the DP for a funeral service on Wednesday, September 29th, in Nyeri.

During the burial ceremony of Mr Richard Kaguchia, father to Nyeri county speaker John Kaguchia, Ndambiri endorsed the deputy president for the top seat where he also announced his candidature for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.

However, the deputy governor has come out to change his tune just a few days after expressing his support for William Ruto.

Ndambiri has said that anybody who is interested with the Mt Kenya votes should go through president Uhuru Kenyatta. He has gone further to recognize Uhuru as the undisputed Mt Kenya leader.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta is our undisputed Mt Kenya leader. Let it be known by all and sundry who are looking for votes that they cannot make inroads without his blessings," stated the deputy governor.

Politically, the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race might have pushed Ndambiri to making these sentiments. Wangui Ngirici, a close ally of DP Ruto, is also a gubernatorial candidate in 2022 and has declared that she will fight for the seat on UDA party ticket. The current governor, Anne Waiguru, has also shown some keen interest in joining Ruto's camp.

Ndambiri might have done his calculations and decided to align with president Uhuru Kenyatta, who also controls a good number of votes from the region. This is a setback to William Ruto's presidential bid.
