Wiper Democratic Movement candidate Agnes Kavindu Muthama who happens to be Muthama's ex-wife had clinched the lead by far leaving the UDA candidate trailing behind. The heavily contested Machakos County by-election saw the withdrawal of Maendeleo Chap Chap party candidate from the race. According to the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, Dr. Alfred Mutua said "There is need to reclaim Machakos County. The only way to do that was not to allow UDA to win. We have withdrawn our candidate from the race to have a block vote that is not divided."Even though the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission confirmed that there was a low voter turnout, the process was as peaceful as it was expected to be. The polls opened very early in the morning and were closed at 5 PM. As soon as the results of the votes begun streaming in, it was evident that Muthama's ex-wife had campaigned very well to convince the voters otherwise. The UDA candidate has been second since the votes started streaming in. But it is wise to say that the gap between the two is massive and that no one can deny. It will be very difficult for the UDA candidate to close the gap at this rate.
