Migori Police Drilled In General Election Preparedness

Police officers within Suna West Sub-county converged at Oruba Police Station in Migori County on Saturday 25th June 2022 to get tips on preparedness for the upcoming General Elections.

Participants at the drilling.

The lecture was delivered by the Sub-County Police Commander Ms. Elizabeth Wakuloba (ASP).

Also in attendance were the OCSs for Pinyoiye, Oruba, and Masara Police Stations.

Some of the topics covered include; the role of Police in the delivery of peaceful elections, general discipline, handling of Sexual and Gender-based Violence cases, and teamwork.

The initiative by Ms. Wakuloba has highly been appreciated by the National Police Service who have challenged other senior police officers to emulate her example.

The border county of Migori is a microcosm of Kenya with almost equal representation of Somali, Maragoli, Luo, and Kuria not to mention the other Kenyan tribes who have invested heavily in the agriculture-rich region.

Kenya has a bad history of managing elections with almost all the elections in the last two decades ending up in tribally-instigated violence.

Sexual violence is linked to elections in Kenya.

Areas of Nyanza, Nairobi, and Rift Valley are known to be hotspots of post-election violence.
