With ten or so months remaining in his political career, Uhuru Kenyatta is racing against time to live his 2017 election pledges at the same time he is heralding the way for his successor.
Before the unprecedented fallout with his deputy, Jomo's son was expected to return hand and support William Ruto between 2022 and 2032, but that is now illusional. The outgoing commander in-chief has instead hinted that if he must front and support a candidate in 2022, then Raila Odinga is his favourite.
His coded signal has impressed a number of leaders among them the vocal trade unionist Francis Atwoli who is a strong crusader of Agwambo. COTU secretary general is of a strong conviction that under Raila's grip, the country will experience unwitnessed developments and economic resurgence.
For Atwoli's hopes to actualize, DP Ruto who is perceived to be a threat to Baba's course must be tamed. The veteran has persistently lived downsizing the man from Sugoi to an extent he has prophesied doom of his political life.
As Uhuru, Raila and other anti-Ruto crusaders fasten their belts to outwit the self proclaimed Chief Hustler, the Dormer's lieutenants who were previously entrusted to propagate Agwambo's gospel in Mt Kenya region have started fleeing and seeking asylum in Ruto's camp leaving the architects of Ruto's downfall hapless.
Kirinyaga county governor Anne Waiguru is the latest political operative from Uhuru's turf to declare her support for William Ruto. Waiguru has lived hurling political expletives at the latter but since politics is dynamic, she has finally joined the bandwagon.
To Kenyatta's son, Waiguru has codedly told him that Raila's presidency in Mt Kenya is but an attempt to sell pork in the streets of Mecca, the earlier he accepts this, the better.
To anti-Ruto bandwagon, Waiguru's political move is a blow. It seems to herald a possible future exodus of members from Uhuru's wing to Ruto's, such a feat will slacken Agwambo's Statehouse course and should that happen, Atwoli will be christened a false prophecy.
