77 year old senator Amos Wako has left his ardent supporters in speculation mode after remaining silent, two weeks down the line after the ODM party gave out a direct senate nomination to a newcomer, Mr. Hillary Odera Itela.
It remains unknown whether Wako had voluntarily choosen not to defend his Busia county senate seat that he has held for a decade under the Raila-led, Orange Democratic Movement party ticket.
While speaking at Emuria FM, a Busia based media company, the newly unveiled ODM senatorial aspirant, Mr. Hillary Odera Itela couldn't authoritatively point whether Wako, a personality of great repute both at home and nationally, was contented with his achievements spanning three decades, hence seeing it fit to usher in fresh blood as he takes some critical roles behind the scenes.
Wako, a University of London trained jurist and Alliance boys high school alumni had a seamless transition from government to politics in 2013 when he captured the Busia seat after beating former finance minister Chris Okemo, one year after his tenure at the state law office where he served as the attorney general for an epic 22 years came to an end as demanded by the newly promulgated 2010 constitution.

In 2017 general elections, Wako was subjected to a fierce political battle by renowned activist Okiya Omtatah who was contesting on Ford Kenya party ticket. Omtatah mounted a never seen before political campaign and strategy forcing Wako who was then soft-spoken and unconfrontational to get out of his comfort zone lest he lost the seat to the unflinching greenhorn. Luckily, Wako triumped in the 2017 polls though on a very small margin.
If at all Wako exits from active politics, Omtatah who is running under National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA) party ticket will now face of with Hillary Odera Itela of ODM who is equally a political greenhorn given that he has zero previous experience in active politics.
