Kisii County is a rich agricultural county found in the lakeside region in the former Nyanza province being led by the incumbent governor James Ongwae. Gov. Ongwae is serving his last term in office and various political factions have taken sides to make sure they win the seat in the next general elections.
Though different leaders have shown interest in the seat, party politics in this region will still play a major role in who will be the next county chief. ODM Chief Raila Odinga and James Ongwae have massive supporters in the region and those who will get the endorsement of the two then his road to county office will be smooth.
Some of the leaders who have shown interest in the seat are; Dagoreti North MP Simba Arati, Senator Prof. Sam Ongeri, DG Joash Maangi, Chris Obure, Women Rep Janet Ongera, MP Ezekiel Machogu, Don Bosco Gichana, Daniel Manduku, Manson Nyamweya, James Omongo Magara, Charles Nyachae, Rachel Kemunto, Charles Matoke and James Arasa Oyagi amongst other candidates.
Nevertheless, Simba Arati, Prof. Ongeri, DG Maangi, WRP Ongera, and Omingo Magara are the front runners, though of late it seems Paul Simba Arati is running away with the title due to his down to earth approach to the people. However, the people of Kisii will still decide who their next governor is in the next general elections this August.
