Why Mwai Kibaki Will Not Be Accorded a 21-gun Salute Today

According to reports, unlike Kenya's first president, late Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki would not be greeted by a 21-gun salute at his inauguration.

Instead, he will be granted a 19-gun salute, similar to that afforded to the late President Daniel Arap Moi, who passed away a few years ago.

This is due to the fact that Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Arap Moi did not pass away while in government. The president is awarded a 21-gun salute if he or she dies while still serving the nation, while a 19-gun salute is provided to him or her if he or she dies after leaving office.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Vice President William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga are among the dignitaries who have already arrived in Othaya, according to media reports.
