Parliament approves the nomination of Martha Koome for appointment as Chief Justice

Chief Justice Martha Koome has been given a clean bill in her pursuit to succeed Justice David Maraga, who retired last year December.

Martha Koome was vetted by the Justice and Legal Affairs committee last Thursday and now has the authority to rule as Chief Justice .

"This house approves the nomination of Koome for appointment for the Chief Justice position," the team said.

After the committee tables approval report, the whole house then debates and votes to uphold the committee's decision or overturn it

Speaker Justin Muturi made the call for the sitting in a Gazette notice on Monday. The lawmakers held two sessions, one in the morning and another in the afternoon and came to an agreement of qualifying Madam Martha as Chief Justice.

During her vetting, Madam Martha pledged to restore harmony and end bad blood among the judiciary, executive and the Parliament.

Koome warned the agents of corruption in the Judiciary and promised to make example of them if they don't exhibit any positive change.

Martha Koome makes history as she is the first female Chief Justice in Kenyan history of Chief Justices.
